The home for plants from rocky places

Green book cover titled "The Crevice Garden" by Kenton Seth and Paul Spriggs, featuring a photograph of plants growing among layered stone rocks, with the subtitle "How to make the perfect home for plants from rocky places," set against a pale green background.

Filbert Press commissioned us to design The Crevice Garden by Kenton Seth and Paul Spriggs, two leading enthusiasts in this specialist gardening field. The book offers detailed guidance on designing, constructing, and planting crevice gardens.

Our role

We led cover design and internal layouts, creating a contemporary yet approachable design that supported the authors’ in-depth expertise while appealing to a wide gardening readership.

Balancing expertise with accessibility

The layouts combine playful typography with the authors’ own botanical drawings of plants and rocky formations. These illustrations are paired with informative how-to features, step-by-step guides, and the extensive plant directory — making the content as practical as it is beautiful.

Impact

The book has been praised by gardening communities for its clarity and visual appeal, inspiring readers to explore this distinctive style of planting.

As well as the authors I will congratulate the designers, Studio Noel, and Publisher, Filbert Press, for delivering such an attractive well laid out illustrated book that inspires, guides and educates the reader.
