Designing clarity around a nutrition hot topic

Teal book cover titled "The Unprocessed Plate" by Rhiannon Lambert, featuring a food photograph of pasta dishes, forks, cheese, and a grater on a wooden table, with the subtitle "Simple, flavourful UPF-free recipes to transform your life" and a red badge noting a foreword by Tim Spector, set against a pink background.

DK commissioned us to design the internal spreads for The Unprocessed Plate by bestselling nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert. An essential guide to cutting ultra-processed foods (UPFs) from daily life, the book combines clear science with over 60 family-friendly recipes.

Our role

We created a vast suite of illustrated infographics and spot illustrations to explain the science behind UPFs and highlight practical swaps. Alongside the recipes, we designed layouts that balance authority with accessibility, ensuring readers can easily navigate between guidance and inspiration.

Creative approach

The design approach blended clarity and warmth: infographics distilled complex nutrition research into simple visuals, while playful illustrated details lightened the tone. Strong typography and well-structured spreads gave the book consistency across science-led content and recipe sections.

Impact

The Unprocessed Plate became an instant Sunday Times bestseller, cementing Rhiannon Lambert’s role as one of the UK’s leading nutrition voices and making the debate around UPFs accessible to a mainstream audience.
