Crafting a recognisable series for fuss-free meals

Three "How to Make Anything" cookbooks displayed on an orange background, including air fryer and slow cooker titles, with food photographs on the covers and "100 recipes" badges.

Ebury Publishing commissioned us to develop the series design for Hayley Dean’s How to Make Anything cookbooks — starting with How to Make Anything in an Air Fryer. Covering breakfasts, lunches, dinners, sweets and snacks, the ambition was to celebrate recipes that are quick, unfussy and bold. From the outset, we built a design framework that would be recognisable and cohesive across future titles.

Open recipe spread titled “French Toast Sticks with Summer Berries,” showing ingredients and method on the left, and a plated stack of toast sticks with strawberries on the right, topped with syrup being poured.

Our role

We created the series identity, leading cover design and internal layouts. The template combined clean, bold photography with vibrant colour accents and consistent typography — a flexible system that could adapt across different appliances and recipe themes.

Chapter opener spread labelled “Chapter 2: Lunch,” with a photo of tacos topped with avocado, onion, and salsa on the left, and a clean title page on the right.

Building continuity and clarity

Each book in the series shares these core visual elements: strong food photography, bursts of colour, and layouts that flex for content while staying instantly recognisable. The identity now stretches across How to Make Anything in an Air Fryer: Easy Dinners!, How to Make Anything in a Slow Cooker, and How to Make Anything in a Slow Cooker: Weeknight Wins! — building visibility and recognition with every title.

Open recipe spread titled “Loaded Potato Skins,” with ingredients and method on the right, and plated potato skins with salad and sauce on the left.

Impact

How to Make Anything in an Air Fryer: Easy Dinners! launched as an instant Sunday Times bestseller. The strong, consistent branding has helped establish the series as a go-to for fuss-free cooking in the UK market.
