Creating a family-friendly cookbook series

Two cookbooks, "The Ramadan Cookbook" and "The Ramadan Family Cookbook" by Anisa Karolia, are displayed side by side on a blue background. The titles feature gold foil, accompanied by food photography of celebratory dishes and subtitles highlighting 80 recipes for Ramadan, Eid, and family gatherings.

Ebury Publishing commissioned us to design The Ramadan Cookbook by food blogger Anisa Karolia, featuring 80 recipes for Ramadan, Eid and celebrations throughout the year. Following its success, we also designed The Ramadan Family Cookbook, the second in the series. Both books reflect Anisa’s fuss-free, family-oriented style, creating an inviting and practical series for home cooks.

Our role

We collaborated closely with Ebury Publishing’s in-house team, leading the design of the internal layouts and illustrated guides. The ambition was to capture the spirit of Ramadan while ensuring usability for families cooking together.

Blending tradition and contemporary design

The layouts combine rich colours associated with the holy month with clean, geometric shapes for a modern touch. Practical illustrated guides — such as step-by-step samosa folding — sit alongside more decorative illustrations that celebrate the communal and nourishing nature of food during Ramadan. The result is a flexible design system that can grow across multiple titles while remaining recognisably part of the same family.

Impact

The Ramadan Cookbook won the Gourmand Award 2023: Best Influencer Cookbook of the Year, establishing Anisa’s debut as both critically acclaimed and commercially resonant. With the addition of The Ramadan Family Cookbook, Ebury has built a distinctive, family-focused series for an underserved but growing market. The design balances cultural richness with contemporary appeal, positioning the books as both practical companions and celebratory keepsakes.
