Yale University Press commissioned us to design new covers for Ronald Hutton’s Blood and Mistletoe: The History of the Druids in Britain and Pagan Britain. Both titles explore the history, symbolism, and mythology of ancient Britain, uncovering the roots of rituals, beliefs, and cultural traditions.
Our role
We designed the covers to reflect the depth and richness of Hutton’s scholarship, using detailed illustration and strong colour palettes to signal the mythological themes at the heart of the books.

Visualising myth and history
Each cover uses symbolic imagery — mistletoe for Blood and Mistletoe, and Stonehenge with decorative motifs for Pagan Britain — to give the titles a striking and distinctive presence.
Impact
These covers present Ronald Hutton’s works with a bold, refreshed visual identity, helping them stand out to both new readers and long-time admirers.
