Kyle Books commissioned Urban Garden Design by Kate Gould, five-time RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner. Aimed at gardeners of all experience levels, the book explores every stage of creating an urban garden — from design and layout to choosing materials and plants.

Our role
We led art direction and design, creating a visual framework that reflected the book’s urban focus while celebrating Kate’s expertise. Our goal was to make the content feel as approachable as it was authoritative.

Clean and contemporary design
We developed a pared-back look and feel, with generous white space giving the photography room to breathe. A mix of typefaces provided character and variety, while supporting the clarity of the content. Full-bleed imagery, pull-out quotes, and grey-background feature spreads added pace and rhythm, creating an elegant, browsable reading experience.

Impact
Urban Garden Design was named one of the Financial Times’ Best Gardening Books of 2019, recognition that reflects both its authoritative voice and its contemporary design.
